Preparation and aftercare

Before the treatment

Most postponed appointments are postponed for reasons that could have been foreseen.

• Tell us about every medicine and supplement you take — blood thinners especially.
• Tell us about pregnancy, breastfeeding and any planned vaccination.
• No tanning or sunbeds for at least two weeks before laser treatments.
• If you get recurrent cold sores, say so in advance — preventive treatment may be needed.
• Avoid alcohol for a day before injectable treatments; it increases bruising.
• Come without make-up if the treatment is on the face.
• If you are ill or have a fever, call and move the appointment — that is entirely normal.

After the treatment

The first day usually decides how quickly everything settles.

• Avoid saunas, hot baths, pools and hard exercise for a day.
• Do not touch, rub or massage the treated area unless your doctor said otherwise.
• Do not pick crusts or peeling skin — that is exactly how marks and scars are left.
• Use SPF 50 on the area: after most treatments the skin is more sensitive to UV.
• No acids, retinoids or scrubs for a few days unless agreed otherwise.
• Redness, mild swelling and small bruises in the first days are an expected reaction.
• Drink enough water, and do not expect the final result immediately.
