Hair loss

Before treating hair loss you have to know why it started. Everything follows from the cause — including whether injections will help at all.

from €150 Duration: 60 min

What it is and when it is needed

A combination of products is injected into the scalp to improve the environment around the follicle: circulation and the availability of nutrients. It is a supportive method that works on follicles which are still alive.

Some causes are internal — thyroid disorders, iron deficiency, a recent illness, hormonal change, medication. Where that is the case, treatments without addressing the cause achieve little, so the doctor sends you for tests first.

  • The first step is establishing the cause, not a treatment.
  • A course is needed; a single session does not change the situation.
  • The result depends on the cause and on how long the loss has been going on.

Who it is for

The method is used where follicles are still active and the cause has been established. In areas of long-standing baldness, where follicles are gone, injections will not bring hair back — and the doctor will say so openly, rather than after a course.

  • Increased shedding, noticed when brushing or washing.
  • Thinning at the crown or along the parting.
  • Loss after an illness, stress or childbirth.
  • A dry, irritated scalp alongside the shedding.
  • Maintaining hair after the main treatment.

How it goes

  1. Consultation

The doctor examines the scalp, establishes when the loss began and reviews your medication.

  2. Tests, if needed

Where an internal cause is suspected, blood tests are ordered. Without them treatment is guesswork.

  3. The procedure

The product is injected into the scalp with fine needles. It is short; sensitivity varies.

  4. Course and maintenance

The doctor sets the length of the course and the maintenance plan from the response.

Results

Shedding usually reduces first, and only later is there a visible change in growth. Hair grows slowly, so judging the result before several months tells you little.

This is not restoration of hair in bald areas and it does not guarantee an outcome: that depends on the cause, on how long the loss has run, and on whether the underlying condition is being treated.

Aftercare

The scalp is more sensitive for a day and the injection points are still closing.

  • Do not wash your hair for 12–24 hours.
  • Avoid saunas, pools and hard exercise for a day.
  • No harsh hair products or dye for a few days.
  • Do not scratch the scalp, even if it itches slightly.
  • Follow the plan the doctor set — without it the course does not hold.

Contraindications

Some of these are temporary. The doctor decides after examination and tests.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Inflammation, infection, fungal disease or wounds on the scalp.
  • Allergy to the components of the product.
  • Clotting disorders and blood-thinning medication — assessed individually.
  • Uncontrolled endocrine disease — the underlying condition is treated first.
  • Acute illness or fever — the appointment is postponed.

Common questions

Will my hair actually grow back?

It depends on the cause and on whether the follicles are still alive. Where they are gone, injections will not bring hair back — which is why the cause is established first.

How many sessions will I need?

Almost always a course. The doctor will give you the number after assessing the scalp and any test results.

When will I see a change?

Shedding usually reduces first; a change in growth comes later, because hair grows slowly.

Will I need blood tests?

Often yes. Hair loss has internal causes that a treatment does not solve, and they have to be found.

Is it painful?

Fine needles are used and sensitivity varies. You can say so during the appointment if it is uncomfortable.
