PRP — plasma therapy

The treatment uses your own blood: platelet-rich plasma is prepared from it and injected into the skin. Nothing foreign is introduced.

from €200 Duration: 60 min

What it is and when it is needed

A small amount of blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge, separating plasma with a higher concentration of platelets than usual. That plasma is injected into the skin or the scalp.

Platelets contain growth factors involved in tissue repair. The treatment works on skin quality and supports hair follicles, but it is not a miracle: the result builds across a course and depends on the starting point.

  • Only your own plasma is used, so an allergy to the product is not possible.
  • A course is needed, usually several sessions spaced apart.
  • Blood tests may be required beforehand.

Who it is for

The method is used for skin quality and for supporting hair. With hair loss the cause is established first — PRP does not replace treating the underlying condition.

  • Dull facial skin that has lost tone.
  • Fine lines and dryness.
  • Thinning hair, as a supportive method.
  • Skin recovery after other treatments, on the doctor’s plan.
  • Wanting to avoid foreign products.

How it goes

  1. Consultation

The doctor assesses the situation, reviews your medication and orders blood tests if needed.

  2. Blood draw 5 min

A small amount of blood is taken, as for a routine test.

  3. Preparation 10–15 min

The blood is spun and the plasma separated. It all happens in the room.

  4. Injections 20–30 min

The plasma is injected into the area with fine needles.

Results

Redness, mild swelling and small bruises are possible immediately and settle within a day or two.

The change accumulates across the course and is judged some weeks after the last session. The effect is not permanent — the doctor sets how often to maintain it.

Aftercare

The injection points are still closing on the first day, so aftercare is minimal.

  • No make-up for a day.
  • Avoid saunas, pools, sunbeds and hard exercise for two days.
  • No acids or scrubs for a few days.
  • Use SPF.
  • For the scalp, do not wash your hair for 12–24 hours.

Contraindications

Some of these are temporary. The doctor decides, having reviewed your history and any tests.

  • Blood disorders and clotting problems.
  • Blood-thinning medication — assessed individually.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Active infection, cold sores or inflammation in the area.
  • Cancer, autoimmune disease — assessed individually.
  • Acute illness or fever — the appointment is postponed.

Common questions

Is it safe, given it is my own blood?

An allergy to your own plasma is not possible, but contraindications exist — they concern blood conditions and general health, which the doctor assesses.

How many sessions will I need?

Usually a course. The doctor sets the number and the intervals from your situation and your goal.

Is it painful?

The blood draw is like a routine test. Fine needles are used for the injections; sensitivity varies.

Will PRP regrow hair?

It is a supportive method. Where follicles are gone it will not bring hair back, and the cause has to be established separately.

Will I need blood tests?

Often yes — the treatment involves blood, so the doctor may order tests beforehand.
